LaShawn Fisher MA, LPC, NCC
As A Place of Peace’s Founder/Director, I bring 25+ years of experience in the counseling field in the areas of mental health, substance abuse, and corrections, and leadership. I have specialized experience working with women, children, adolescents, families, and other therapists. I am a Licensed Counselor and hold Dual Master’s Degrees in Community Counseling and Forensic Psychology from Marymount University and a bachelor’s degree in Social Work from George Mason University. I am also a Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist and have extensive experience working with clients who have experienced or witnessed trauma.
One of Ms. Fisher’s primary specialties is the treatment of adolescents and women. Ms. Fisher began her education and working in early childhood development in the early 1990s. She then began working extensively with woman, children, and families by the mid-1990s specializing in work with at risk families. Ms. Fisher’s approach is person centered, cognitive behavioral, and high emotion focused. She provides a place where clients can be themselves and work thru any obstacle. When the time is right, or if needed, the family system is explored, and each member of the family is encouraged to grow together as a unit. Ms. Fisher also understands that what is defined as “family”, differs for everyone. She has been a leader and manager in the government for years providing leadership and direction in the counseling field. Ms. Fisher possesses life “experiences” to relate to a great deal of the issues her adolescent and women client’s face.
Ms. Fisher holds the philosophy that overall wellness involves a holistic approach where one’s physical, mental, emotional and spiritual (whatever that is for the client) is tapped into over time. In her work with clients over the years, she has observed the need to incorporate more than one approach depending on each individual client.
Ms. Fisher is a an AFAA certified group fitness instructor, NASM certified Nutrition Coach, and a certified Yoga instructor and Dance Fitness instructor. Through her years of experience and personal growth, she realized a strong link between mental and physical wellness and the overall mind body connection. She offers coaching and private sessions in yoga (virtual and in person) and nutrition coaching. Ms. Fisher also teaches private fitness classes for groups and organizations on demand as needed.
